Visitors praise ‘On-A- Whymm’.

Beach access

Travel writers and tourists praise ‘On-A-Whymm’, Long Island for being one of the most beautiful in The Bahamas and somewhere they long to live or visit.

Long Island lives up to its name as it is long and thin – around 80 miles long and just four miles wide, which means you are never very far from its amazing coastline.

The list of benefits that come with living on the island is also very long! The Bahamas.com tourism experts say, “Brilliant coral reefs, pristine flats and serene beaches make Long Island a haven for fishing, diving, and boating. Boasting world-class bonefishing and thrilling encounters with sea life, this tranquil island offers a few inland surprises, including Dean’s Blue Hole, the second deepest blue hole in the world, and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, the oldest church in the country.”

And another guide states, “The picturesque views here, far outweigh those experienced on other islands of the Bahamas, as with those on Long Island, your views can be had from the highest cliffs, reaching hundreds of miles into a spellbinding Long Island sky.”

These wonderful views and a beachfront lifestyle – as well as additional income potential – can be enjoyed at Long Island’s On-A-Whymm classic villa, which is on the market for $1.35 million.

The three-bedroomed property, with a private pool on Sunset Beach and a guest cottage, provides amazing views over Whymms Bight.

Engel & Völkers Bahamas Real Estate Advisor Cheryl de Goicoechea says, “On-A-Whymm is a classic villa that offers the owner privacy, comfort and quintessential Caribbean living. This property includes the On-A-Whymm villa with a private pool on the beach and the guest cottage.”

The open floor plan at On-A-Whymm means that amazing water views can be seen from the living area, dining room and gourmet kitchen. The villa has 2.5 bathrooms, an office/library and laundry room.

The grounds, private pool and outdoor patio and covered porch combine to provide a wonderful area for outdoor entertaining and relaxing, along with a grilling area and Sonos stereo system. There is also a 20KW back-up generator, mosquito mist system, solar pool pump, outdoor showers, and a reverse osmosis system. The studio cottage includes a full kitchen, walk-in closet, small office and full bath.

On-A-Whymm has been a successful rental property that guests say greatly exceeded their expectations. For instance, I truly did not know what to expect when booking my trip to Long Island, but all I can say is my expectations were met beyond anything I could imagine. The lodge is an amazing, beachfront property with all the amenities you could want or need.”

Another says, “We wish we would have found this place years ago! The accommodations were nothing short of exceptional. You can’t miss [Long Island] if you’re seeking your own little slice of paradise including unprecedented privacy.  Pictures don’t do it justice…the beach is incredible.”

And other guests are just as enthusiastic about On-A-Whymm and the Long Island lifestyle. “Just steps away from the beach with a postcard view, the house is in a great location. We spent many days on the beach and cruising the nearby waters, exploring caves, snorkeling and fishing, and taking in the 50 shades of Bahamian blue. I’ve been visiting The Bahamas for over 15 years and have been to almost two dozen different islands. Long Island is one I’d be happy to go back to every year. The attractions, the people, the beauty… it has it all… Clean, green, and pristine!

“The setting smack on a calm, quiet, turquoise bay, was the perfect wake up’..great for afternoon sun, breathtaking sunsets and under a virgin canopy of stars at night. The water was inviting every time of the day.”

Long Island is famous for its stunning Dean’s Blue Hole, the second deepest in the world. The water in the under-the-surface sinkhole is exceptionally clear and it attracts visitors – and divers –  from all over the world. Another attraction for adventurers is Long Island’s many ancient caves, which can reach more than 1,200-feet underground.

As you would expect, Long Island attracts watersports enthusiasts and is enjoyed by fishermen, boaters and divers.

It is also rich in produce and produces many crops including corn, pineapples, squash and bananas.

To echo this, we will leave the last words with another On-A-Whymm and Long Island visitor. “The private beach allows for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, walking and exploring. The island itself is a wealth of endless natural beauty. We cannot speak highly enough of this property or the charm and beauty of Long Island.”
