The Bahamas is in great shape to welcome back visitors once the travel restrictions are removed. To demonstrate its international appeal and its determination to bounce back even stronger than before, The Bahamas has been named as 2020 Destination of the Year by travel professionals.
The Destination Of The Year Award has been given to the Islands of the Bahamas by the CCRA Travel.
The Destination Of The Year Award has been given to the Islands of the Bahamas by the CCRA Travel Commerce Network – where the travel industry connects.
It was presented at the CCRA National Conference, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, in National Harbor, Maryland, in February. The Destination of the Year award was received by Dornell Watson-Dean, Senior Business Development Manager with the Bahamas Tourist Office New York, based in the DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) area.
Awards were presented for various accomplishments and achievements in the travel industry. The Bahamas Tourist Office teamed up with the British Colonial Hilton Nassau to take part in the conference, which was attended by more than 300 travel advisors from the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
*Meanwhile, the first Bahamas Travel Awards have taken place, honouring the best people and destinations in the industry. Fifteen Bahamas Travel Awards were presented on behalf of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the Caribbean Journal at the inaugural Bahamas Travel Awards Ceremony at Baha Mar Resort, Nassau, in February.

- Destination of the Year: Nassau Paradise Island
- Best Restaurant: Mahogany House, Nassau
- Best Luxury Resort: Rosewood Baha Mar
- Best Boutique Hotel: The Island House, Nassau
- Best All-Inclusive Resort: Warwick Paradise Island Bahamas
- Best Cruise Line of the Year: Royal Caribbean
- Best Fishing Lodge: Bimini Big Game Club, Bimini
- Best People- to- People Host/Hostess: Beverly Wallace-Whitfield, Nassau
- Best Experience: Graycliff Heritage Village, Nassau
- Best Beach Bar: Sip Sip, Harbour Island
- Best Airline: Bahamasair
- Best Marina: Staniel Cay, Exuma
- Best Bartender: Marv Cunningham, Atlantis Paradise Island
- Best Chef: Kevyn Pratt
- Best Taxi Driver: Cheryl Fox-Ferguson, Nassau.
Director-General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism & Aviation, Joy Jibrilu, says she is proud the awards recognize the people who make the sector work every day, from taxi drivers to hosts and hostesses.
“The ultimate goal of all those of us who work in the tourism and hospitality sector in The Bahamas is customer satisfaction.”
In 2019, Bahamas tourism reached a new record of more than 7 million visitors.
